[ Vis: has been modified to handle multiple bands, so no need to
run beginNight when switching between H&K.
However, if you find a bug, contact bfl.
A working backup of the old vis is in /home/pti/vis/vis.works. Bring
it
into use by "cd /home/pti/vis ; cp vis.works vis" ]
1) In /home/pti/bin, type "H", or "H20MS" for 20-ms mode; it should
type out a confirming message.
2) Hibernate the system. Reboot the fringe tracker.
3) Select the H filter in dewar; there's a label on the dewar that gives its numerical position on the filter-wheel indicator.
4) Replace the 8-deg "K" prism on the kinematic base with the square 16-deg "H" prism.
5) Align the spectrum by adjusting the horizontal-adjustment micrometer
knob on the mount between the prism
and the lens. The position to adjust it to should be labeled on the
mount. Look at the current position to see how to
read the micrometer. Don't adjust the other axis.
6) Type ftFull, arrayDoSpec. Insert the alignment corner cube
and crank up the white-light source. If you don't see
anything, change the variable arrayDoZoom from 16? to something smaller
to display more of the array around the
spectrometer location. Adjust the lens to center the spectrum.
(arrayDoZoom=16 is the default value).
7) Note that you will have to realign the white-light pixel slightly because of wedges in the filters.
8) Align the spectrometer using the 1.6 um narrow-band filter to usual
location on screen; H mode uses 4 pixels
across the band. (usual position is just to right of screen center;
e.g., if 4 pixels are displayed, H goes at the 3rd column
from the left, and 3rd row down). Note also the larger pixel size,
there are larger brackets drawn on the terminal screen
which indicate the proper position .
9) Enter and set the stroke to the frequency and amplitude displayed on the fringe tracker to the active DL.
1) Select the K filter in dewar.
2) Put back the original 8-deg prism on kinematic base
3) Adjust the horizontal-adjustment micrometer back to its value for K.
4) Adjust the lens to recenter the spectometer.
5) Use 10MS or 20MS commands in /home/pti/bin.
6) Hibernate the system, reboot ft.
7) Enter and set the stroke amplitude and frequency as displayed on ft window to the active DL.
1) Select the K filter in dewar, if not already in place.
2) Put in the 16-deg prism on kinematic base (if switching from H-band, it will already be in place).
3) Adjust the horizontal-adjustment micrometer to its value for KHI. Positions are recorded on the micrometer base.
4) Adjust the lens to center the spectometer on the 5th spectrum pixel (arrayDoSpec). There is a red square on the FT monitor for this 5th pixel.
5) Use KHI (10ms) or KHI20MS (20ms) commands in /home/pti/bin.
6) Hibernate the system, reboot ft.
7) Enter and set the stroke amplitude and frequency as displayed on ft window to the active DL.
8) Since 5-channel K-band is our nominal operating mode, be sure to replace the 8-deg prism and set the micrometer back to normal K position after observations!
